Deane was project manager for the $45M expansion of Solid Energy's Spring Creek underground coal mine at
Dunollie, near Greymouth. This project, for relocation and upgrade of the pit bottom infrastructure of a hydraulic coal
mine was completed under budget and two days late on a 15 month long project. The project included:
- Extended underground services umbilical
- Surface screening of coal
- Haul road seal extension
- Underground and surface plant design and procurement, and
- Coal preparation plant expansion.
In July 2009 we were recognised by the Association of Consulting Engineers, New Zealand (ACENZ)
with a Silver Award of Excellence for our management of this project.
Deane was project manager for the Strongman Fire Management project. This project involved design, planning, management, and execution of various activities to suppress an underground fire in old workings at the Strongman Mine north of Greymouth.
Deane was project manager for the Liverpool 4 coal mine investigations up to pre-feasibility stage. This project investigated, designed, costed, scheduled, and evaluated an initially largely underground coal mine north of Greymouth. Evaluation subsequently changed the focus to largely open cast.
Deane was Technical and Environmental Manager for Ferguson Brothers of Greymouth, the contractor building the Pike River
Coal Mine access road through virgin native forest and Conservation estate. The project involved 12 bridges or large box culverts, and some 400,000 cubic metres of earthworks. In November 2008 Ferguson Brothers won the
Canterbury Contractors Federation Environmental Award and award for contracts more than $1M.
Deane was construction manager for part of the Pike River Coal mine rail load out facility at Ikamatua. This installation included site roads, truck discharge chute and retaining walls, overhead discharge conveyors, coal stockpile pads, subsurface transfer conveyors, rail loadout bin, and a circular rail loop.
Andrea has acted for the Department of Conservation processing a concession for an investigative sea floor gold mining application.
Other projects have included the Big River winding engine house reconstruction for the Department of Conservation, at the
site of a historic gold mine near Reefton, a steep sub-alpine road extension in rock into a new opencast coal mine for Solid Energy New Zealand,
at the Strongman mine site near Greymouth, and project management, investiation, design, and construction management of a seal extension of the Spring Creek coal mine haul road.
