Deane is project manager for the recovery of fully operations on State Highway Six at Diana Falls in the Haast Pass (see management section). This project involves managing safety
for the public and workers through a large and complex landslide, along with design and construction of a $3M system of debris attenuator fences above the highway.
Deane was concept designer of the 7km long access road for Westpower on their Waitaha hydro scheme in Westland. This role design including establishing design
criteria, route finding, guiding a technician geometric designer, cost and risk funding estimating, and preparing a design report for use with statutory approval applications on the scheme to
a power station and tunnel portal.
Deane has worked as Engineer to Contract on a coal mine haul road for a 2.7km long coal mine haul road seal extension project
involving pavement investigations and design, cost forecasting, geometric design, tendering, and construction management.
Deane has carried out economic evaluations for road maintenance and new construction projects, and has developed
a suite of long-term maintenance management documents for use by client, consultant, and contractor on an alpine section
of State Highway 73 between Candys bend and Starvation Point. Prior to establishing our current business, Deane acted as Engineer's Representative and site engineer for the Wellington based designer on the alpine Candys
Bend to Starvation Point reconstruction project on State Highway 73 Arthur's Pass.
Deane was Technical and Environmental Manager for Ferguson Brothers of Greymouth, the contractor building the Pike River
Coal Mine access road through virgin native forest and Conservation estate. The project involved 12 bridges or large box culverts, and some 400,000 cubic metres of earthworks. In November 2008 Ferguson Brothers won the
Canterbury Contractors Federation Environmental Award and award for contracts more than $1M.
Deane was construction manager for part of the Pike River Coal mine rail load out facility at Ikamatua.
This installation included site roads, truck discharge chute and retaining walls, overhead discharge conveyors, coal stockpile pads, subsurface transfer conveyors, rail loadout bin, and a circular rail loop.
Deane acted as Team Leader for Preliminary Design, Detailed Design, and Post-Construction phase road safety audits of a
seal extension proposal for the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier access roads for the Department of Conservation.
